Fire School FAQs

Everything you need to know before coming to Bristol Fire School.
If you can't find the answer you're looking for, just get in touch.

WHERE IS BRISTOL FIRE SCHOOL?

Fire School takes place in Bristol, a couple of miles from Temple Meads station. The exact address and joining information will be sent to you before your class. For those that are driving, there is free on-street parking nearby.

HOW BIG ARE THE CLASSES?

Classes are deliberately small and hands-on, with a maximum of 10 people. Everyone gets plenty of time cooking, asking questions and getting involved.

DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE?

Not at all. Some people arrive having barely lit a barbecue; others have been cooking over fire for years. The classes are designed to build skills and confidence rather than test what you already know.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

We cook and eat outside, so dress for the weather and wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Layers are always a good idea. We'll provide aprons.

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?

We cook outside in pretty much all weather. Bristol being Bristol, rain is always a possibility! Unless conditions are genuinely unsafe, the class will go ahead, so bring suitable layers and waterproofs if the forecast looks wet. There will always be plenty of warm drinks on hand.

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?

No specialist kit is need, we will have everything you need for the class but feel free to bring a notebook if it helps to jot stuff down as we cook and chat.

WHAT ABOUT DRINKS?

We will provide as much tea, coffee and water as you can drink. If you want to bring soft drinks or booze you are welcome, but for obvious reasons we will encourage you to wait until we have finished cooking before you start drinking any alcohol.

WHAT ABOUT DIETARY REQUIREMENTS?

Tell us about any dietary requirements or allergies when you book and we'll do our best to accommodate them. Due to the nature of outdoor cooking if you have a very severe allergy to something it may be harder to deal with but drop us a line and we can discuss your personal circumstances.

WHAT ABOUT VEGETARIANS & VEGANS?

We just love vegetables at Fire School so whilst most of our classes contain some good meat we do cook a lot of vegetables, and vegetarians and vegans can easily be accomodated.

DO WE EAT WHAT WE COOK?

Absolutely. Every class finishes around the table with a generous feast of everything we've cooked during the day, with time to eat, talk and go back over what you've learned.

CAN I COME ON MY OWN?

Absolutely. Lots of people do. The classes are small, relaxed and sociable, and everyone cooks together throughout the day.

CAN I BUY A CLASS AS A GIFT?

Yes. Gift vouchers are available for all Fire School classes, so the recipient can choose their class and date later.

BUY A GIFT VOUCHER

HOW DO GIFT VOUCHERS WORK?

Gift vouchers are valid for 12 months from date of purchase. People with vouchers get early access to booking onto classes when they get released. To redeem a voucher, drop us an email and we can discuss which class you would like to book onto. If you want to upgrade your voucher for the Low & Slow class you can top it up for the additional cost, again, just drop us an email and we can help you.

CAN I CHANGE OR CANCEL MY BOOKING?

We understand that plans change. You can cancel for a full refund up to three weeks before your class, or move your booking to another available class. After that, we can offer a refund or move your booking if we’re able to resell your place. Please see our full Terms & Conditions for details.
